So recently I thought to myself that I should get a Switch lite. I figured that it would be nice to have a small slightly more portable switch. Luckily for me that was Switch that was the most readily available. So I decided to take the plunge!

My first impressions were that the system felt better to have in my hands than its larger sibling. This undoubtedly was due to the unibody design and also that some of the weightier components had been removed, making it significantly lighter. I also noticed that the buttons were no longer clicky. I really enjoyed the overall feel of the device.

The games in general looked great on the Switch lite, especial Nintendo first party games. However where the system faltered for me was when I went to play games like Fire Emblem Three Houses, Pillars of Eternity, and anything from the Balders Gate series. The screen was simply not big enough to play these games comfortably. Granted the regular Switch’s screen isn’t big enough to play these games comfortably either, but you can dock it to a TV and play them very comfortably. This isn’t a big deal if you don’t own any of these games, and are getting the Switch Lite as your first Switch. But this does ultimately make your pool of games smaller as a result of your decision.

The core question is does it make sense to have both a regular Switch and a Switch lite? My determination was that it doesn’t make sense, since there are some games that you can’t save your save data in the cloud to grab on the other console. Also while the Switch lite is way more comfortable to hold in comparison, it isn’t like the regular Switch is uncomfortable.

In my experience while the regular Switch is heavier than the Switch lite, you can put the regular Switch on a table and disconnect the Joy Cons and play very comfortably. It ultimately depends on how many people are sharing your primary Switch. If you are the only one using it then I would say that it doesn’t make much sense. If you are sharing it with a spouse or family member, then that is where I could say it might make some sense. Though I would seriously consider just getting a second full Switch.
