Do you have a large number of Blu-Rays? If you do, you may not be aware that the digital versions that come with a lot of the new releases are compatible with the Movies Anywhere, or other multi device services like Vudu. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, lets dig into what these services are.
Movies Anywhere – This service will take your libraries from iTunes, Vudu, Amazon, and a number of other services and pool them together. You will be able to access most of your movies from all of the connected video services. I say most movies because there are a few movie companies like Paramount who are not on board.
UltraViolet – This was the service that was the predecessor to Movies Anywhere. You could build up a library and access that library from services like Vudu. It was abandoned in 2019, but the movies that were redeemed will remain in the video service used to access them.
So why bother spending the few minutes required to setup the Movies Anywhere or other service? Well it is kind of like leaving 10 – 20 dollars on table per movie. Also who is to say that in a few years you will still want to have a Blu-Ray player? It is also nice to have all of your movies available on your phone, tablet, or even computer.
But is it too late? Each of the sheets that have the redemption code, also have an expiration date. The good news is that those expiration dates are not set in stone. Don’t wait too long, but out of the two hundred Blu-rays that had digital copies, only one indicated that it had expired.
I think that this is important because digital is the way things are going. Have you been to a Best Buy lately? If you have you have seen their Blu-Ray/DVD section is shrinking. My local Best Buy only has 3 rows left. This isn’t so bad. You can have a portion of your media library at your finger tips at all times.
