I switched back to Apple recently. I had moved away from the iPhone a couple of years ago because I had used iPhone for years prior, and wanted to try out Android. I had heard some really good things about the Samsung phones of the day, and decided to dive in. The first Android phone I had was a Samsung S7 edge. It was a nice phone, but it gave me nothing but trouble towards the end of the first year. Luckily the Samsung Galaxy S8 had come out and from the reviews it promised to be a drastic improvement. I will say that the S8 plus is the best Android phone I have ever used. If you are wanting to get an Android the new Samsung’s are really good. However this time around I was looking at what was out there I was settled on two different phones.

Google Pixel 2 XL –
I liked the idea of what the Google Pixel 2 XL offered. That was of course a clean Android experience. Also it offers a good camera. The thing that bugged me was that it doesn’t have wireless charging, and also had fixed memory. The base xl model only comes with 64 gigs. The maximum memory that you can get is 128 gigs, and that bumps the price up to almost $1000. This seemed problematic. Oh, it has no headphone jack.

iPhone 8 Plus –
After facing the fact that I may not have a headphone jack in my next phone, I decided to look at Apple again. I left Apple originally because of them not keeping up with the latest technology. Also because I had been using them for so many iterations I wanted to see what else was out there. The iPhone 8 Plus was not going to score high marks for pushing the boundaries of design for certain. It looked not unlike the iPhone 6s Plus that I had before I switched to Android. However it had the latest and greatest internals. It has the same processor and rear cameras as the iPhone X. It had the same base storage as the Pixel 2 XL, but it had an option for a 256 gig variant. This generation of iPhones also added wireless charging, albeit a bit slow. I had some concerns about battery life, however after watching several YouTube videos I was fairly confident it would at least last the work day.
The Verdict –
Ultimately I decided to go with the iPhone 8 plus. I was nervous about going back but I decided to take the plunge. I got the 256 gig version. I wanted to basically never run out of storage. From the moment I booted up the phone and start getting things set up on it, I was quickly reminded about the parts of iOS that were so good. Every thing was snappy and simple. After two years of using Android, I was fairly content with my Galaxy S8 plus. However the new generation of iPhones added some dearly missing features. The key feature was wireless charging. I also liked the fact that the phones generally kept running snappy. In my experience even the fastest Android phones start to get bogged down after a few months if thoroughly used.
The thing about my new phone that I will have to mention is the battery life. It is amazing. I am easily getting a day and half out of it. That is with normal daily usage and playing a few games here and there.
